The famous doctor and neurologist Dr. David Perlmutter is a member of the American College of Nutrition, and author of seven books. In 2006, the National Nutrition Food Association awarded him the Medicine Award, and in 2010 he receive the Humanitarian Award from the American College of Nutrition. What is said in one of his books (Gut to the Brain) about our intestines as the second brain is very impressive:
“Our intestines are our second brain because they can heal us or make us sick. From birth, they are home to a population of one hundred billion bacteria, which is called the microbiome. Its functioning demonstrates an unsuspected connection with our health, from inflammatory risks to obesity, including mood disorders and autism. The discovery of this phenomenon allows us, first of all, to understand the impact of what we eat, and especially to become an actor of our health, by taking more care of our intestines.”
